Fifteen years ago, someone gave me a gift that changed everything. It was the book “You can Heal Your Life” by Louise L Hay. It was the first time I considered the possibility that our thoughts impact our health, wellbeing, relationships, and, therefore, our reality. The same friend that gave me the book soon became a magnet for money, success, and love. I was on fire with possibilities and thus began my decade-long quest to manifest my dreams into reality.
I frantically began reading every book and watching every movie I could find. I religiously said affirmations and did enough vision boards to wallpaper my entire bedroom. However, despite all my effort, I remained stuck, in the same place, without the job, love, money, or success that I was so deeply desiring. In time, an undercurrent of resentment began to build. I started to question my faith, my beliefs, and who I was as a person.
Then it occurred to me that the subconscious mind is always listening. It doesn’t just hear the five-minute meditation, but it is listening to your phone conversations with friends, and watching every action you take. Instead of focusing on attaining what I desired, I began to direct my attention inward, toward my attitudes, beliefs, and feelings. It was through this exploration that I discovered I was living under some limited worldviews. No matter how many affirmations I was saying about myself and the world, it didn’t matter if I was talking to others and taking actions from a contradictory place. I began to see that despite all my effort, I was the one blocking my good.
It was when I became aligned with my true self that I was then able to become aligned with the true nature of the world around me. Once I was able to see the cost these limited beliefs were having, I began to remove those barriers within me. Then, almost overnight, it was like the dam finally broke and all of the good that I had been desiring came rushing forward- my dream career, the perfect mate, financial abundance, happiness, joy, health, wellbeing. And ever since that day, my life has continued to get better and better.
Many articles and books on manifestation will tell you that you have to act as if your dreams have already become a reality. However, I think it is more than that. You have to act as if certain worldviews are your truth. Once you start living inside these beliefs, you will naturally respond to the world with less fear. When love becomes the motivation for your actions, there is alignment with you and harmony with the rest of nature. So, here are four beliefs that will allow you to manifest your dreams into reality.
- There is enough for everyone.
Abundance is a hard belief for many people because our world is plagued by the concepts of the ‘haves,’ and the ‘have-nots.’ However, if you consider the true nature of the earth, it is very abundant. For example, the planet is more than equipped to produce enough food for everyone despite the fact that so many people starve. It is only because so many live inside the idea of lack and limitation that people become greedy, selfish, competitive, and stingy. This then creates a world in which people unnecessarily compete, fight, and kill over resources.
However, there is enough for everyone to have all the love, money, and success that they desire. When we fail to see this truth, we get envious of others, greedy, stingy, angry, and frustrated. Every time we feel any of these emotions or begin to withhold or protect what we have, we are telling our subconscious mind that there is not enough to go around.
Begin to notice where you feel competitive and jealous of others. These emotions are a sign that you are blocking your good in this area and will continue to as long as you hold on to these feelings and beliefs. However, if you can learn to relax into the idea that there is always enough for everyone, you will begin to celebrate the wins of others, you will be generous, and giving. When you can start to feel into and act from that place, your life will begin to transform, and great things will come from the most unexpected places.
- You are already perfect, whole, and complete.
This concept was a big stretch for me. I used to endlessly wonder what was wrong with me and criticize every move I made. Then I realized that all of those perceived imperfections were an illusion. Of course, there is variance on the planet, and I could compare my body to another’s and come up with a list of things to improve but would I want to live in a world where we all look the same? Of course, I make a million mistakes every day, but isn’t that part of learning and would I want to live in a world where I had nothing left to learn?
Although change is inevitable, when we strive to change ourselves and our circumstances from a belief of not being good enough, or unworthiness or inadequacy, we create more of the same self-fulfilling prophecy of not being sufficient. When we live inside the idea that something is inherently missing or flawed, then we try to fill that hole and make up for the inadequacy of things and other people. However, since we are already complete, and there is nothing wrong with us, the striving to prove our worth is like the mirage of water in the desert. The more we chase after it, the further away it appears, and we never quite catch it. Some people spend their entire lives thirsting for this fantasy, never looking down to realize they have their flask of water to drink from.
Notice the places in your life where you feel you are lacking, incomplete, missing, starving, or thirsting. This idea is an illusion and is blocking you from getting what you want. Instead of continuing to chase after the fantasy, relax, sit back, drink from your cup. Once you can stand still and just be- the job, the love, everything you want, will find its way to you.
- The flow of good is easy, natural, and it is your birthright.
Hard work was a virtue and value for many generations in my family. For years I tirelessly worked day and night because I thought this was how it was supposed to be. However, this goes against the belief that we are already perfect, whole, and compete. It also contradicts the idea that life is abundant.
Good is our birthright. We don’t have to try to be great, we already are. While there is always some action required, the energy and intention behind the act always predict the outcome. There are no means to an end; the end predicts the means. For example, if someone is constantly worried and stressed to achieve a goal when they finally reach it, they will be concerned that what they obtained will leave or anxious about the next thing they need to succeed. That is not good flowing to you, that is more stress and worry flowing to you.
When we can relax into the good, it will come naturally and easily. If there are areas in your life where you are feeling anxious, worried, stressed, overwhelmed, and exhausted, that is a good indication that you are not trusting good things flow naturally to you.
Once I saw how stressed I was in a previous job, I realized that I was keeping the job out of fear and not love. I decided to leave without having anything lined up. For the first time in my life, I relaxed and allowed greatness to flow to me as I pursued doing the things I loved. That leap of faith was life-changing and validated the belief that I am always supported. Once you can trust things to quickly and naturally appear in your life- money, opportunity, and success will become smooth and effortless.
- Your life is meant to be joyful.
Elizabeth Gilbert has a podcast based off of her book Big Magic, where she asks creatives the same simple but profound question “Why do you create?”. The answers are a little different, but every time the theme is the same- they do it for them. Rupi Kaur also has a poem that says, “The day I stop writing for me is the day I will be empty of poetry.” It is our life purpose to live in joy and follow our bliss. The minute we start to wonder who else is experiencing joy or what others will think is the minute our creativity dries up and our love shrinks back.
We also often believe the tall tale of ‘no pain no gain’. I once asked a Shaman why there was so much sadness in the world. She said that people, unfortunately, live with the belief that they need to experience pain to heal and grow. I realized then, that I too had lived with the idea that growth was painful, and that to achieve goals, you had to suffer. So often, when a client comes in for therapy, they are afraid of healing because they think it will hurt and be painful. I always tell them that this is not necessarily correct and that I have seen many clients heal fast and pain-free. And almost to an exact science, the clients that believe they don’t need to suffer to heal, do so with ease. The ones that look at me incredulously end up with a lot of tears and resistance before they begin to feel better.
The adage about following your bliss, couldn’t be truer. Our feelings are the ultimate guide to let us know if we are in alignment with our intrinsic nature and best self. If you can focus on those things that bring you joy- mentally, and with your actions, then you will see big changes.
It is not necessary to do all of this perfectly or put a lot of effort into this. Just making a few shifts in your perspective and becoming more mindful of the actions and words you speak can make a significant impact. It did for me.
